Most, just like iMessage, give you the option NOT to send the read receipts (yes, your iFriend can choose to show whether the message has been read or not). Luckily, Signal lets you disable this feature and reclaim a little privacy. However, some users don't like the idea other people knowing when they've read messages. Read Receipts and Typing notifications are all offered by Facebook's Messenger, BlackBerry Messenger, Whatsapp, among others. After receiving many requests for the feature, Signal introduced read receipts last year to its mobile apps. That being said, to achieve what you want you need the other party to install a 3rd party app, period. SMS does not support real time notifications (there are read receipts, but those are also optional and not in real time). The feature works when the sender and recipient activate the read receipt on their Apple iMessage service. The default texting app on iPhone, iMessage, has the read receipts for knowing if someone read the text you sent. Here are detailed steps: Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. The only problem is, it's only available for Apple products, so it can't be used in other platforms. In this section, we discuss the read receipt of popular OS. To disable read receipts for everyone on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll have to use the Settings app. It is worth pointing out that iMessage is a live chat service that supports read. Go to your messages settings >more settings >multimedia messages and enable what you need from there. Doing so will expand the icon into a list of people who have viewed your status. It adds read receipts, lets you know when someone is typing, and adds. Its at the bottom of the screen, just above an eye-shaped icon. Tap the status for which you want to see the views. iMessage is, in fact, an extra app for iDevices. This option should be at the top of the Status page. It's Apple's proprietary tech very much like BBM back in the day with BlackBerries before they made it available to other platforms. Unfortunately, although you see it baked into iPhones and iPads and Macs (one of the things I DO like about iDevices, actually), iMessage is NOT a standard messaging protocol.
